Description of the place

Daranga is a small-town in the Baksa district of Bodoland (Assam), Northeast India. It lies at the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains, about 500 meters from the international border with the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. It is about 105 kms from Guwahati, the capital of the state of Assam. The nearest railway station is Rangia which is about 55 kms from Daranga. The nearest airport is at Guwahati. The closest tourism destination to Daranga is Gorumara. Other close by tourism destinations include Majuli, Nalbari and Manas.

Daranga is inhabited by about 18 ethnic groups of peoples, having distinct cultures and languages like the Bodos, Nepalis, Adivasis, Santhals, Assamese, Bengalis, Biharis, Muslims, Manipur, Garos, Marwaris, Haryanvis, Rajbongsis, Bhutanese, Lepchas, South Indians, etc. 95% of the population comes under very low income group, being daily wage-earners (labourers).
